Chimamanda’s ‘Americanah’ : Who’s Directing?

It’s not clear as to who the director in the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanah,” should be. For those who are not aware, following the successful adaptation of her novel, “Half of a yellow sun”, directed by Biyi Bandele, academy award winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o clinched the film adaptation rights to Americanah and is poised to produce and star in the film via Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment company.

Some have opined for the use of a black director and a female one at that, and far more of African descent, such as Nikyatu Jusu, Frances Bodomo, and Chika Anadu. However, with the crop of Hollywood peeps behind the film project, it is likely that a more established director will be used regardless of race and gender.. after all the success of the film at the box office is what counts.

The novel itself unveils a Nigerian woman, Ifemulu, and tells of how she moves about in a new land (America) while her lover Obinze experiences life as an undocumented immigrant in London. americanah

Great story…let’s see who will occupy the director’s seat?.. shall we?
